Crypto swaps in Sparkling, from any coin to any coin across four networks
Most of what people do in crypto comes down to one move: exchanging one coin for another. In Sparkling that move works the same whether both coins sit on one chain or on two different ones, and you never hand your funds to an exchange in the middle.
How do crypto swaps work?
A swap has three stages: a quote, a signature and settlement. Liquidity providers offer a price for the pair; the app shows the best one; you sign; the providers deliver the other token to your address.
In Sparkling, quotes come from request-for-quote market makers through Bebop, with DEX aggregators and intent networks as alternative routes. When the two coins are on different chains, the route also handles the crossing; that case is covered on our cross-chain swap page.
What a swap quote includes
| Line on the card | What it means |
|---|---|
| You pay | The exact amount leaving your wallet |
| You receive | The estimated amount arriving, after costs |
| Rate | Price of one token in the other |
| Network fee | Paid to the blockchain, not to us |
| Service fee | Our fee for executing the trade |
| Route | Which networks and sources are used |
The most common starting point is a stablecoin; our page on how to swap USDC shows the typical directions.
Why do crypto swaps fail?
Most failed swaps have one of a handful of causes, and none of them takes your funds; at worst you lose the network fee.
- The price moved beyond the allowed slippage before the trade settled.
- The quote expired because the confirmation took too long.
- There was not enough of the native coin left to pay the network fee.
- Liquidity for a small token was too thin for the size requested.
- The network was congested and the transaction timed out.
If a swap fails, the card tells you why, and the agent offers to re-quote.
Are crypto swaps taxable?
In many countries, including the US, the UK, Canada and Australia, exchanging one crypto asset for another counts as a disposal, so a gain or loss is calculated at the moment of the swap even though no cash changed hands. Rules differ elsewhere, so check your local guidance or an accountant.
Every confirmed swap stays in your history in Sparkling with date, amounts and networks, which makes record keeping simpler; we don’t file taxes for you, and this is not tax advice.
